The text that sent me spiraling in fear

“Call Me” was all the text read.

My heart skipped a beat.

Memories flooded my mind.

Memories of the day I received the call that…

my child was in jail.
my best friend was in the hospital.
my child was in a car accident.
my dad had a heart attack.
my grandchild had passed away.

My stomach in knots, I picked up the phone.

I dialed.

“Hello,” he answered cheerily.

“What is it?” I croaked.

“I’m at Costco. Is there anything you need?”

Instant anger.

Followed by a flood of relief.

“Eggs. We need eggs.”
