Easter: Stories & More Blog Tour

When the call went out to contribute a story or photo for Inscribe Christian Writers’ Fellowship Easter anthology I immediately recalled a photo I had taken in the Holy Land.

In 2013, I travelled to Israel with my mom and 33 other Christians from Central Ontario for a 10-day tour.

We started in Tel Aviv and ended in Jerusalem. Highlights of the tour included the cities of Jaffa, Caesarea, Capernaum, Cana, Nazareth, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem.

You can read my daily journal entries with pictures starting here.

It was at the site of the Dead Sea Scrolls discovery that I spotted the Acadia tree.

The Acadia tree at Ein Gedi had thick thorns. Tradition has it that these were used to make the crown of thorns for Jesus.

I can’t even imagine the excruciating pain suffered by Jesus as they drove the sharp crown of  thorns into his head in mockery of His claim to kingship.

“You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me” (John 18:37 NIV).

That trip to Israel, and that tree of thorns, will forever be seared in my memory and has made me feel closer to the experience of Jesus as He approached His death.
