Do We Change Into Angels When We Die?

My Granddaughter Is in Heaven But She’s No Angel

Over a year ago, my 7-month-old granddaughter passed away quietly in her sleep.

Since that horrific day, the support of family, friends, neighbours, and acquaintances has been incredible. They’ve offered food, shoulders to cry on, and kind words.

And I am grateful that in those kind words, no one said to me, “God needed another angel in Heaven.”

Although I’m sure that whoever would say such a thing would only mean it in the best sense. I’m sure their intent would be to offer condolences and be helpful.

But it would irk me nonetheless.

I believe that my grandbaby is in heaven with Jesus. With other true believers who’ve passed away. And with angels. In the presence of angels. But she did not change from a human to an angel.

Humans and angels are completely different creatures.

In the beginning, God created angels. Since then there has not been an increase nor a decrease in the number of angels. They are invisible and immortal. They are organized under the direct authority of God.

And there are a variety of classes of angels including seraphim, cherubim and archangels.

Seraphim angels are creatures created primarily to worship God. They have six wings and burn with holy fire. Cherubim (or cherubs) stand close to God’s throne. They have 4 faces, 4 wings, and feet that are calf-like. Cherubim were the angels placed at the entrance of the Garden of Eden. Archangels are those who seem to be at the top of the angelic hierarchy and engage in spiritual combat. Most familiar is Michael who is talked about in the book of Daniel.

Although God created both humans and angels, they are dramatically different. Humans have been made in the image of God and their sins can be forgiven.

I look forward to the day when I will join my granddaughter in heaven — along with the angels.
