The Khanyisela Scholarship

* program that addresses the educational disparities in South Africa.

The program sponsors primary school students to attend a high quality school outside of their crowded township.

High school girls receive funding to participate in an extra-curricular academic program at a local university.

Khanyisela also fully funds a remedial teacher position so that school-aged children might have access to after school educational assistance and programming.

Students living at St Vincent Children’s Home in Mariannhill, South Africa directly benefit from the scholarship. Access to high quality education and academic resources is critical to end the cycle of poverty in South Africa.

Only through education can South African students cross the country’s poverty-stricken third world to its prosperous, yet too often inaccessible, first world.

Donations are tax deductible.

Khanyisela means to illuminate or to enlighten in Zulu, the most common language spoken in this province of South Africa and the first language learned by nearly all of the children residing at St Vincent Children’s Home. We hope that through the Khanyisela Scholarship, these children will be allowed to shine to their fullest and most brilliant potential.
