When Can I Find Time to Pray?

by Janis Cox

Let’s be realistic. When your days are full and you have no time to think, let alone pray, what do you do?

I have found that God finds the time to communicate with me even if it is the middle of the night. I don’t get frustrated anymore, instead I enjoy His company. In a way I look forward to it. And as I lie there I start praying – sometimes I finish my list but most times I fall asleep before I am done.

Here are a few other places to pray:

  • at the checkout counter while you are in line
  • at stop lights
  • while drying your hair
  • washroom breaks
  • while on hold on the phone

Of course if we connect with God on a regular basis our thoughts will be with Him on an ongoing basis. I see His hand many times throughout the day – and I thank Him. I ask for help many times, too.

And I do try to find longer break times – away times – just as Jesus did.

After he dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray (Matthew 14:23, NIV).

  1. I really enjoyed reading this post this morning. It is a simple truth and a reminder that prayer is not about choosing a time and place but allowing Gods grace to go hand in hand with your walk.

      • Hi Jan,
Thank you for commenting. I do believe as Kimberley says God needs to be a part – minute by minute – of our lives. And praying is how we learn to get closer to Him. Maxi Dunnam says: “Prayer always changes our prayers.” That’s from his book, The Workbook of Living Prayer.
        Blessings,
        Janis
