What the Bible Says and What We See Today

“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” — Matthew 24:42

God gave us prophecy not to scare us, but to help us stay alert, faithful, and full of hope. Jesus Himself told us what to watch for so that when we see these things happening, we can stand firm in faith.

Here is a look at some of the major signs the Bible gives and how we can already see reflections of these trends in our world today.

Many people are turning away from God’s truth, choosing cultural acceptance over Scripture. In some churches, what God calls sin is being redefined or overlooked. This growing apostasy is something Jesus warned about, reminding us to cling to His Word no matter the pressures of society (2 Timothy 4:3–4).

At the same time, the Bible describes a movement toward global governance and unified systems of control. We see this today in the rise of international organizations that influence politics, economics, and health policies across multiple nations. Technology and digital systems — like digital currencies, biometric IDs, and AI monitoring — are becoming tools that can affect how people buy, sell, and participate in society, echoing the prophecy of control over commerce (Revelation 13:16–17).

Another warning from Scripture is the rise of one-world religion or false worship. Interfaith movements promoting the idea that all paths lead to God may sound peaceful, but they can dilute the truth of Christ’s exclusive salvation (John 14:6). The spirit of antichrist is already at work, showing itself in ideologies that deny Jesus’ deity, promote man as the ultimate solution, or label God’s truth as hate (1 John 2:18).

Globally, we also see tension around Israel, ongoing wars, unrest, and natural disasters. Famine, pandemics, and extreme weather patterns serve as reminders that the world is not in control — God is. The Bible calls these signs, not to create fear, but to prompt awareness and readiness (Luke 21:11, Matthew 24:6–8).

Persecution of believers is another key sign. In some countries, Christians face imprisonment, censorship, or even death for their faith. Even in nations where believers enjoy relative freedom, social and legal pressures challenge the ability to live openly for Christ (Matthew 24:9).

Amid all this, the Bible reminds us that Jesus’ return is the ultimate hope. He will come visibly and powerfully, defeat evil, and establish His eternal kingdom (Revelation 19:11–16). Until that day, we are called to be faithful, discerning, and prayerful, trusting God with the future.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your plans and giving us the gift of discernment. Help us to stay faithful, alert, and hopeful, no matter what we see happening in the world. Strengthen our hearts to cling to Your Word, love You deeply, and walk in Your truth. Protect us from deception, guide our steps, and let Your Spirit give us courage and peace. May we always look to Jesus, our Saviour and King, and live in readiness for His glorious return. In His name, we pray, Amen.
