What is God trying to say to you today?
In the Bible, we read that God spoke to people in a number of different and interesting ways.
He talked to Moses through a burning bush (Exodus 3), spoke to Balaam through a talking donkey (Numbers 22:28), and used strange object lessons with Jeremiah (Jeremiah 13:1–11).
Although I’ve never heard the audible voice of God, I’ve felt Him speak to me in a number of different ways. There have been times when I’ve read the Bible and it felt like the words jumped off the page and hit me with a new revelation. Other times, I heard God’s voice in my head.
It was clear and bold, unlike my own internal musings. He’s also used the words of others, circumstances, and events to speak truth to me.
But the most vivid and memorable experience was when God spoke to me through a series of visions. In the Bible, God shared important messages and revelations with many people through visions including Abraham (Genesis 15:1–6), Jacob (Genesis 28:10–17), Moses (Exodus 3:1–6), Samuel (1 Samuel 3:1–14), Isaiah (Isaiah 6:1–8), Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1:1–28), Daniel (Daniel 7:1–28), Zechariah (Zechariah 1:7–21), Peter (Acts 10:9–16), Saul (Acts 9:1–9), Cornelius (Acts 10:3) and John (Revelation 1:1–20).
In the first of my visions, I sat on a wooden raft in a deserted lagoon. It was a quiet place with still waters. A man sat on the raft beside me. He told me to look at the beach. There, I saw a number of crate-like boxes. The man said that these boxes held all the major happenings in my life. Each significant experience was on the shore, including my past, my present, and my future.
There was a cross, a crucifix, standing on top of each box. As I watched, each cross moved over the top of its box, slid down the side, stopped, and then embedded itself to become part of the box. The man told me that the crosses meant Jesus was there with me at every moment of my life.
We then moved to the beach, and I looked into the boxes. When I looked into the first box, I saw Jesus standing beside my parents at my baptism. The next box showed where Jesus sat when I had my car accident. Each box had a significant memory with Jesus in it.
After looking in all the boxes, I backed up and watched as the man firmly shut the boxes. But only the boxes that held my past experiences were securely sealed.
I asked the man if I could look into the boxes of the present and he said yes. It was like an out-of-body experience as I looked in and saw myself sleeping.
Then I asked the man if I could look in the boxes of the future, but I was told I wasn’t allowed.
The boxes of the past started to move toward the sea like they were on rollers. As if an invisible hand were guiding them, the boxes moved into the water and slowly drifted out, sinking to the bottom of the sea. The past was gone.
Through these visions, I felt peace and comfort knowing the past had been sealed and I could move on with life again.
God speaks to His people in many different ways. I feel blessed to have Him speak to me in so many distinct ways. What is God trying to say to you today?
