What Are God’s Omni Attributes?

God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent

I’ve always considered God to be full of love. I’ve likened Him to a good Father and feel comfortable praying to Him.

But sometimes, I feel I may be too comfortable.

What I mean by this is that in considering God to be my Friend, I miss the omni-ness of Him.

I’ve learned that God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. But what do those words actually mean?

Omnipotence

God can do anything!

God has no limits. He has unlimited power to create, sustain, and control all things. Nothing is too hard for Him.

I am reminded of this when I look up at the stars but also when I look through a microscope. He has the power to make something as massive as the universe and also as tiny as a single cell.

Omniscience

God knows everything!

God has perfect knowledge of everything. He knows our thoughts and our motives. He knows every single detail.

God, knowing my thoughts and motives, can be both convicting and comforting at the same time. With His perfect knowledge of the past, present, and future I can fully trust His answers to my prayers.

Omnipresence

God is everywhere!

God is able to be present everywhere at the same time. He is not limited by space or time.

Just like the air I can’t see, God is everywhere. Although I may be separated from my family or friends, I always have God with me. Just like David says in Psalm 139:7–8 NIV, “Where can I go from your Spirit? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.”

God’s omni-ness strengthens my faith. Whenever someone questions why God doesn’t do this or how come He did do that, I am reminded that He is not only my good Father and my Friend, but He is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. I may not know the answers to the questions, but I can trust the One they are questioning.
