Taking action to receive healing
One of my favourite names to call God is the Great Physician. I have experienced His healing touch in my own life and recently witnessed a miraculous healing.
The Bible has many records of healings and a number of ways people received healing. Some involved acts of faith, others needed to obey Jesus’ instructions, and still others simply needed to be in His presence.
Reading about the miracles, I like the ones where Jesus required an action on the part of the person being healed.
Healing of the Man with a Withered Hand
Jesus told the man to stretch out his hand, and he did so, resulting in his healing. (Matthew 12:9–13, NIV)
Healing of the Blind Man at Bethsaida
Jesus led the blind man out of the village, and then gave him instructions requiring two-steps. The man obeyed and was healed. (Mark 8:22–25, NIV)
Healing of the Ten Lepers
Jesus commanded the ten lepers to show themselves to the priests; as they went, they were healed. (Luke 17:11–19, NIV)
Healing of the Paralytic at the Pool of Bethesda
Jesus told the paralytic to rise, take up his bed, and walk. The man obeyed and was healed. (John 5:1–9, NIV)
Healing of the Man Born Blind
Jesus made mud with His saliva, anointed the man’s eyes, and instructed him to wash in the Pool of Siloam. The man obeyed and was healed. (John 9:1–7, NIV)
These Bible accounts show that each of these people had to take a step of faith in obeying Jesus’ instructions to receive their healing. Their actions played a large part in their healing experience.
Although God can heal in any way He wishes, I like the idea of working alongside Him. Acting in obedience and faith to partner with the Great Physician would be an awesome way to be healed.
