All in God’s timing
When I was on maternity leave with my first child, I explored some hobbies I otherwise didn’t have the time to do. One of my favourite pastimes was to create children’s books for my daughter.
I particularly liked playing with ABC books. I made ABC lists and drew a picture beside them. Lists included ABC topics like A to Z Anatomy, A to Z Food, A to Z Outdoors, and A to Z Animals.

These ideas were birthed almost 30 years ago. I believe God gave me a glimpse into my future as an author before I was even a born-again believer.
Since giving my life to Jesus, I have written and published over 10 children’s books — four of which are ABC books:
ABCs of Scripture for Kids: Learn God’s Word through these ABC Bible Verses
ABCs of Psalms for Kids: Learn God’s Word through these ABC Bible Verses
ABCs of Proverbs for Kids: Learn God’s Word through these ABC Bible Verses
ABCs of Gratitude: Give Thanks for Your Blessings Through These ABC prompts
I’m not the only one whose call in life was fulfilled years after God implanted the idea.
God promised Abraham that he would have a son, Isaac, who was born 25 years later.
Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir” (Genesis 15:4–6, NIV).
Joseph received dreams indicating he would one day rise to a position of great authority. This promise 14 years later when he became the ruler of Egypt under Pharaoh.
When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” (Genesis 37:10, NIV)
If you’re wondering what God’s call on your life may be, spend time in prayer and give thought to what activities and hobbies gave you joy in your past. Perhaps God was preparing you for a life of service in this area.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28, NIV).
