Will People Explain the Rapture as an Alien Abduction?

How a rapture might be explained away by an unbelieving world

I’ve been watching several YouTube videos about the end times and how current events may be fulfilling Bible prophecy.

Many Christians differ on whether the following Scriptures refer to the Rapture or the Second Coming, but they see them as promises that Christ will return for His people.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:1–3, NIV)

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed — in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. (1 Corinthians 15:51–52, NIV)

Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. (Matthew 24:40–41, NIV)

One thing a YouTuber mentioned that intrigued me was the notion that non-believers will likely explain away the Rapture by offering a number of alternative explanations.

For example, they may describe the disappearances as an unprecedented natural phenomenon or as a mass psychological event where the reports of disappearances were exaggerated.

Others may argue that those who disappeared actually evolved to a higher plane of existence.

Still others may blame the disappearances on secret government technology, covert operations, or hidden agendas. Some may blame religious groups themselves, claiming the event was connected to cult activity or radical beliefs.

Others may claim it was an abduction by aliens.

Of all the potential explanations, I believe this may be the most readily accepted by non-believers. If millions suddenly vanished, people might attribute it to extraterrestrial intervention.

Aliens and UFOs have been in the news recently as the U.S. government has released a number of disclosures about unexplained aerial phenomena.

For example, they’ve released a batch of previously classified files that include reports, photos, videos, and witness accounts of unexplained aerial phenomena. The latest release contains reports of glowing orbs and unusual lights observed in various locations.

So it seems possible that the enemy is setting the stage for mass deception by creating interest in extraterrestrial phenomena. Such interest could become a catalyst for promoting the lie that biblical prophecy is not actually being fulfilled.

This makes it imperative for believers to test every claim against Scripture, and keep their eyes fixed on Christ’s promised return.

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! (Galatians 1:8, NIV)
