Easy Vegan Healthy Eating on the Go! by Deb Powell

SHAKE your way through February…

No!!! I don’t mean from the cold!

Last month I said I’d explain the difference between blending and juicing. One is not better than the other, they just have different purposes.

Simply:

BLENDING: makes ‘shakes & smoothies’ for ongoing support of good health

They can be all fruit or a mixture of fruits and vegetables and are a delicious and easy way to get lots of nutrition. Blending is done in an ordinary blender with juice or water. (Or gadgets like a magic bullet, which is a small high-powered blender for making smoothies and shakes). (The familiar term shake, comes from milkshake, which was originally milk and ice cream blended.)

JUICING: makes ‘juices’ for deeper cleansing and healing

This is usually done with all or mostly vegetables, as they have high vitamin and mineral content and cleansing properties. Juicing tastes great too and is done in a juicer which is a special appliance that separates the liquid from the fibre. Some vegetables have a very tough fibre like carrots, beets, kale and broccoli. The liquid is where the nutrients are and our bodies can send them straight to our cells because the fibres don’t have to be broken down by chewing and stomach acids. You may have heard of people going vegan and juicing to heal from things like cancer, diabetes, arthritis etc. This is why. The more nutrients the body gets, the quicker it is able to heal itself. Anyone can juice anytime, it’s just critical if one is very sick.

Remember: Raw live foods = health. We need them to feed our raw live bodies.

If you follow this recipe’s ingredients, or make similar replacements, know that powdered greens work just as well as fresh, and by including protein this makes it a complete meal.

Hey!…don’t forget the kids! They love ‘milk-shakes’ too right? Let them try your ‘new flavors’ and they don’t have to know just how good these are for them… Have fun! Enjoy!

Tropical Shake

1 cup water
1 banana
½ avocado
1 cup Coconut milk
½ cup orange juice
1 cup leafy greens
¼ cup sprouts
1 cup pineapple juice or fresh pineapple
2 tbs Tahini and / or Hemp seeds

Blend in blender until smooth. Drink right away or chill for later as it will keep in the fridge for several days. Seal tight.

Some nutritious options: Apples, berries, flax seeds, chia seeds, kale, kiwi, cucumbers, papayas, mangos, nuts, even raw garlic and ginger…mmmmm…

Scripture:

Daniel 1:12b “Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.”

Daniel 1:15 “At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.” (Kings ate mostly meat.)

So…until next time…

Tip #6: SHAKE and JUICE your way into health!
